The last post started a series of posts on grammar taboo. Today another set of cards, this time on past simple.

The rules of grammar taboo are similar to the lexical one. Each student receives a piece of paper with a sentence in a given grammar structure. They have to explain the sentence not using the words written underneath the sentence. They have to inform other players if the sentence is positive, negative or if it is a question. All the students know what structure is being practised. It is also possible to show the sentences instead of explaining them.
A small change may make our students laugh, awake their emotions or make an even easy task a memorable one. In case of role-plays or dialogues such a simple solution is including famous people in the dialogue. Or deciding that these are celebrities who will perform the scene. A job interview - maybe Ronaldo and Queen Elisabeth II? A complaint in the shop - Kate Middleton and Brad Pitt? An argument - Donald Trump and Usain Bolt? Combinations are endless, you can choose pairs of famous people by simple drawing. Below you will find a set of names of different well-known people (both living and not) which are ready to be printed and used during the lesson. We can prepare such a set on our own just before the lesson or ask our students to prepare it.
Next week on the 22 of March we are going to celebrate World Water Day. I encourage you to talk with your students about the importance of water in our everyday life. Below you can find a lesson plan for a lesson during which students discuss why we need water and what the consequences of lack of water are.
These exercises require students to imagine being someone else for a moment. Recently I noticed how difficult it is for some teenagers. I believe that the more chances we give them to feel like someone else, the bigger the chances for them becoming more sensitive. The following exercises develop empathy, understanding, acceptance, dealing with difficult situations, sensitivity, creativity, bravery, spontaneity, humour, critical thinking, awareness of the dangers and threats to the environment, awareness of values and their impact.
Preparation: copy the poster with a love cloud for each student in your class Procedure:
Recognising emotions is a difficult task, that's why it is important to practise it with our students. In this post you can find a set of exercises based on a film called Mind the gap. Students name the main character's feelings and speculate what caused her to feel like that.
Mind The Gap from Luke Flanagan on Vimeo. Today I would like to share with you a set of tasks developing optimism, (self-)appreciation, gratitude, self-confidence, diversity, ability to judge, wisdom, empathy, critical thinking, respect, understanding, openness, sensitivity.

TwórcaMy name is Kasia. I have been teaching for 13 years. I seek new challenges, that's why I design my own teaching materials, write articles, mentor teachers on online courses, write middle school exams. My students say I smile like Mona Lisa Archiwa
